The market
Ibiza's property market has shifted decisively upmarket since 2015. The island's boutique hotel stock, concentrated in converted fincas in the interior and new-build properties along the west and south coasts, is now among the most design-conscious in the Mediterranean. The dominant aesthetic is natural: raw linen, warm timber, stone floors, outdoor living as a year-round proposition. Local Ibizan craftsmanship is excellent at small scale, but the island's artisan supply chain cannot provide complete FF&E for a 40-room property in a single production run. Bali fills the gap.
Shipping & logistics
From Bali to Ibiza, the practical details.
- Transit time
- 30–36 days
- Departure port
- Benoa, Bali
- Arrival port
- Port of Valencia or Barcelona, Spain
- Standard incoterms
- CIF Valencia
- Furniture import duty
- 2.7% on wooden furniture under EU GSP for Indonesia
- VAT / local tax
- Spanish VAT (21% IVA) applies to goods when sold domestically, not on CIF import
Standard routing via Singapore, Suez Canal to Valencia (preferred for Ibiza) or Barcelona. After clearance, truck to the port of Dénia or Valencia Baleares ferry terminal for onward sea freight to Ibiza. Ferry crossing from Dénia to Ibiza takes approximately 3.5 hours. Large containers are split for island delivery due to road constraints in finca areas.
Customs & import notes
Same EU GSP regime as Greece, Indonesia's eligibility reduces furniture import duty to 2.7% on most categories. SVLK timber legality certification required. Spanish customs clearance at Valencia typically 4–8 working days. Ibiza's port has limited customs infrastructure, clearance should always be handled on the mainland.
Climate considerations
Mediterranean with mild Atlantic influence, drier and less windy than eastern Mediterranean. Outdoor use is viable 10+ months per year.
- Summer UV index 9–10; rattan without UV coating will bleach in 1–2 seasons of outdoor exposure
- Coastal salt air within 1 km of shoreline; inland finca properties have minimal salt exposure
- Occasional Tramontane and Poniente winds; not as severe as Mykonos meltemi
- Outdoor furniture remains outdoors year-round in most Ibiza properties, durability specification is important
Recommended materials for Ibiza
A-Grade Teak
The workhorse of Ibiza outdoor furniture. Teak's natural weathering to pale silver-grey suits both the natural finca aesthetic and the more contemporary coastal hotel look. Specify marine-grade teak oil for properties within 500m of the coast; inland finca properties can use standard penetrating oil.
Reclaimed Teak
The eco-conscious segment of Ibiza's buyer market, which is substantial, responds strongly to reclaimed teak's sustainability credentials. The material's aged character also aligns with the island's finca renovation aesthetic. Character markings are considered an asset, not a defect, in this market.
Natural Rattan (UV-coated)
High demand for rattan in Ibiza's boutique hotel interiors, particularly for lounge chairs, hanging chairs and bedroom headboards. UV coating is recommended for any semi-outdoor applications. For interior use in covered terraces, natural rattan without treatment performs reliably in Ibiza's drier climate.
Why Balinese furniture works for Ibiza
The natural materials tradition in Ibiza’s design scene predates the island’s recent luxury transformation. Finca architecture, stone floors, whitewashed walls, exposed timber beams, has always required furniture that respects rather than competes with the building’s material palette. Bali’s craft tradition has been producing that kind of furniture for decades, long before Ibiza’s design-conscious hotel market discovered it.
What has changed is the scale of demand. A single boutique hotel renovation in Ibiza’s finca belt might require 80–150 pieces across multiple material categories: teak outdoor sets, rattan bedroom furniture, stone bathroom fittings, brass hardware throughout. No single Ibizan artisan workshop can produce at this volume. Ubud Atelier’s production model, single workshop, full-scope capability, one container, solves this problem directly.
The EU GSP import framework makes Balinese furniture more competitive than most Ibiza designers expect. At 2.7% duty on wooden furniture, the difference between an Italian factory piece and a Balinese hand-made equivalent is smaller on paper than the aesthetic and quality gap suggests. For projects where every piece will be examined at close range by guests paying €1,000+ per night, that gap matters.
Questions about Ibiza delivery
Can furniture be delivered to a finca in the Ibiza interior?
Yes, but with logistical planning. Many finca properties are accessed via narrow rural roads (caminos) that cannot accommodate standard delivery trucks. Our logistics partner on Ibiza uses smaller vehicles (3.5t vans, flatbed trucks) for interior deliveries. We recommend confirming road access dimensions before production, we can advise on maximum piece sizes for interior locations.
What about furniture for outdoor year-round use in Ibiza?
Ibiza's mild winter means outdoor furniture is typically left in place year-round. For this reason, we recommend specifying A-grade teak (not reclaimed teak) for pool-facing pieces, and UV-treated rattan for any woven elements. Stone and brass are unaffected by year-round outdoor exposure in Ibiza's climate.
How long does the full process take from first contact to delivery in Ibiza?
Budget 14–16 weeks from first consultation to delivery at your Ibiza property: 2 weeks for design alignment, 5 weeks production, 1 week QC and loading, 5 weeks shipping and clearance, 1 week island delivery. For projects with fixed opening dates, we work backward from the target date and hold production capacity accordingly.
Is there a minimum order for an Ibiza delivery?
The minimum viable shipment is a 20ft container, approximately 25–40 pieces depending on size. For smaller orders (under 15 pieces), we can consolidate with other Spanish shipments to reduce per-piece shipping cost. Contact us to discuss your scope and we'll recommend the most cost-effective logistics option.
